What does it take to put an unknown part of town on people’s minds? And how do you encourage more activity in a former industrial area? In conjunction with the architectural office Keinicke & Overgaard, UiWE designed temporary urban spaces in the new Carlsberg neighbourhood. The project turns selected squares into characteristic and inviting places for visitors.
We co-designed two temporary installations: “Under the Pent Roof”, a unique, playful urban space with some 3200 ropes and a square, “Plads E”, that houses a café and places to hang out and play. The design helped give the neighborhood a new identity – and enables people to feel at home and be physically active. The Carlsberg urban design was presented at a variety of international exhibitions, including the 2010 Venice Biennale.
